Lionel Ziblat

Composer, arranger, producer and multi genre musician.

Biography

Lionel Ziblat was born in 1972 in Buenos Aires and grew up in Israel. His mother was a classicaly educated pianist and his father was a member of 'Los Jets', an Argentinean rock'n'roll band which operated during the sixties.

 

      After the three year obligatory army service in which he performed as a member of a cabaret rock band, he participated in a variety of music projects and repertory theatre plays. He took a music theory course in the university of Tel Aviv and later completed an eight year study in the Utrecht conservatory in the Netherlands. He finished a 2nd phase (MA) study of classical composition with Henk Alkema, and has also studied Jazz guitar with Eef Albers and orchestral conducting with Danny Oosterman. He followed workshops in conducting, composing and Jazz led by Krzysztof Penderecki, Jurjen Hempel & Hein van de Geyn.

 

      In 2006 he was granted scholarships by Stichting Schuurman Schimmel, the KAS Bank and Stichting Niemeyer Fonds. Today he works regularly as a composer, arranger and conductor with a diversity of ensembles, choirs and other productions. He also writes and produces music for film, television and media, and writes, produces and leads the band Modest Midget.

 

Activities as composer:

      Among the ensembles and groups who commissioned him for music are Holland Symfonia (The National Dutch Ballet & Opera orchestra), The Dutch Flute Orchestra (Het Nederlands Fluitorkest), Flute player Eleonore PameijerThe Ricciotti EnsembleDe Bilt-Stars, the Frysk Fanfare Orchestra, the Utrecht Flute Quartet, Buffo Opera-makersKwivr, Duo Hibiki & ensemble Wervelwind.

His works spanned over the commercial market aswell, working together with Underground Music - a music stock library for all media, specializing in film trailer music, led by film and television composer Amotz Plessner, and with MPL Communications - the greatest music publisher in the world, owned by Sir Paul McCartney.

      Other commissions include organisations like Kloppend Hertz, the Leo Smit foundation & the Stoppelenburg duo.

 

Performances:

      His works were performed in YO! The youth opera festival (Utrecht 2003), Voorproeven Festival (Den Bosch 2002), Tweetakt Festival (Antwerpen 2003), Oerol Festival (Texel 2003), the Juttersfestival (Wijk aan Zee 2004), the Uitfeest in Utrecht (2004) and De Suite, Amsterdam (2004 & 2005).

In 2006 he reached the finals of the Ricciotti arrangers competition and won the third prize for his interpretation of Beethoven's 9th (Weer de 9e), based on Beethoven's 9th symphony. His music has often received a spotlight on different occaisions on the Concertzender and Radio 4 of the Netherlands.
